This smooth and crisp Oshima silk from decades ago is a weaving wonder. Every other 1" black rectangle with the ikat design inside is 'framed' in a muted blue frame, easiest to see in the last photo.  Oshima silk ikats are known for their quality and for highly skilled Oshima artisans who have created them since the 1300's.  The kimono made from Oshima Tsumugi silk become beloved heirlooms because they are so beautiful, long-lasting and so comfortable to wear in all types of weather, year after year. Lightweight and thin, very smooth, each thread pre-dyed to create the intricate ikat design once woven. It takes months to dye and weave one bolt; there are so many processes to assure its beauty.  Both sides are the just the same. This bolt was probably intended for a men's outfit including pants and long kimono jacket; it's almost 22 yards. It has body, no drape and no shine. 14" wide and sold by the full yard, we'll cut yours in one piece from the never used, excellent condition bolt. 100% Silk. Murayama Oshima Tsumugi, Japan.  Hand dyed and hand woven. A treasure.
