"Birds Eye" Cotton Double Gauze from Japan by Nani Iro, 41" Wide By the Yard #EGX-11180-1D
This white, pale lavender, gray, gold, brown and sparkly white print "Birds Eye" is printed from an abstract illustration by Naomi Ito.
Two layers of light, soft 100% cotton gauze are tacked together, adding a bit of opacity, even more softness and a wonderful texture. The print spans the 41" width of the fabric; the whole width is shown in the second and the last photos. Soft, lightweight and breathable, double gauze is good for loose pants, shirts and tops, nightwear, dresses, wraps and other clothing, baby clothes and blankets, etc.
100% Cotton Double Gauze. Width 41". From Japan. New, not vintage. Limited supply and sold by the full yard; minimum order 1 yard. Yours will be a continuous piece cut for you from the bolt. $22.00/yard.
- Construction: Double gauze is made by stitching two thin layers of cotton gauze together at regular intervals. The loose weave of each layer, combined with the double layer, gives the fabric a bit of a spongy, fluffy, or springy feel. Sometimes they get more crinkly over time. This one, unwashed, isn't crinkly.
- Opacity: Double gauze is semi-opaque and can be see-through in lighter colors.
- Uses: Double gauze is often used for women's, men's, and children's clothing, such as dresses, blouses, tops, and pajamas. It can also be used for household linens, accessories, and decoration.
- Care: Hand or machine was delicate/cool. Tumble dry low or air dry. Double gauze requires a lot of pressing, especially after washing. It's recommended to use a cotton setting on the iron and to apply a lot of steam. Pre-washing/drying the fabric is also important, as is the way you plan to launder the finished garment. Expect a lot of shrinkage as the open weave gauze closes up.
