Charcoal/Black Mystery Symbols Ikat Vintage Kimono Silk from Japan By the Yard #772
Mostly black and white, until you look a little closer. There's a nearly invisible checkerboard pattern, in which every other 3-1/2" square also has red and gold in the design. There's so much black it's hard to see. This kimono silk is thin, soft, mid-lightweight, a bit crisp, with no drape. It has a bit of body and a bit of texture, a 'cottony' type of silk, probably raw silk Tsumugi or similar. No shine at all. Reads from a distance as charcoal and black. The back is the same; the design is in the weave, not printed. 14" wide and sold by the full yard. Your piece will be cut in one piece from the unused, excellent condition, vintage bolt. 100% Silk. Japan.
