Shibori Obiage Scarf for Obi, Bright Orange Very Textured Silk, 6" x 46" #525
Sometimes worn above or over an obi, or as scarves, this is an obiage with wonderful intense dimensional shibori work. Very textured, much more so than a kimono fabric would be because it has not been steamed smooth. Two 14" long portions are shibori and puckery. The 3" long ends and about 13" of the center are not; those portions are sleek, shiny super bright orange silk jacquard, 12" wide, with glistening hexagons and flowers. The entire piece of fine silk itself before the shibori, was probably about 12" wide and almost 2 yards long, and is now shibori puckered to about 6" x 46". The back is similar but the tiny shibori spots aren't the same or as pointed. Sleek, smooth, supple, flowy and drapey (before the shibori). One of a kind, light as a feather (less than 2 ounces), in excellent condition, age unknown. 100% Silk. Japan.
