Re-Stocked, Authentic Indian Head Nickel SCREW-BACK 7/8" #SW-32-SC
Genuine old nickel coin, made into a Screw Back Concho in Colorado by longtime respected button and concho makers. Heavy, not a lighter weight replica. Domed, 13/16" to 7/8" diameter, Chicago Screw Back, with variance in how detailed the coins are. This is for the Indian head showing on the front of the button. These were coins dated 1913-1938 but the dates have worn off in all those years of circulation.
We also carry this button with the Buffalo showing, in another listing. For that button, click here.
This Buffalo nickel or Indian Head nickel is a copper-nickel five-cent piece that was struck by the United States Mint from 1913 to 1938. It was designed by sculptor James Earle Fraser. The wearing of the coin, substantial thickness and heavy weight makes this a beautiful button. This button shows the Indian Chief on the front; the buffalo is inside on the back, where you can't see it once the button is sewn on.
This coin was made from Cupronickel, which per Wikipedia is also known as copper-nickel, and is an alloy of copper that contains nickel and strengthening elements, such as iron and manganese. Despite its high copper content, cupronickel is silver in color.
