Midnight Shadow Diamond Glimmer Mystery Kimono Fabric from Japan, Set of 8 Various Sized Pieces #251
These were formerly pieces to a kimono. Dynamic is an understatement. Diamonds created with red, blue, gray and black and blends thereof; the look of light and shadow, and fine metallic threads adding shimmer and subtle iridescence. Thin, light, crisp and a bit sheer, with body and no drape. As far as how it was made, we have more questions than answers, but it's breathtaking. The back is a woven broken stripe, shiny black, but why? Is it pure silk and metallic, or a blend? Is this silk some type of unique, complex jacquard? How old is it?
There are a few tiny holes just a couple of notches we found, and overall it's in great condition. You are getting all of these:
13" x 43", 2 pieces. 13" x 49, 1 piece. 13" x 31", 2 pieces. 13" x 19", 3 pieces. Plus a few other smaller or still-pieced pieces. There are some pieces missing from the original kimono, probably because they had stains or tears, etc.; you won't be able to make a full kimono from these.
Unusual and exceptional.
