Handwoven Natural Mid-Weight Cotton Khadi from Bangladesh, by the Yard #HL003
This lightweight, slightly slubby, open weave 100% cotton is natural off-white/oatmeal. The cotton was hand-gathered, handspun and hand woven by a community of artisans in Bangladesh, not in a fabric mill. After washing it's softer, drapier, 'fluffy' and gauzy, not as open, and will shrink 5% to 18%. Heavenly to wear in warm weather especially, and beautiful on windows and beds.
For generations, Comilla, in central Bangladesh, has been famous for its handspun, handwoven cottons. Thankfully they’ve survived many a challenging time through disastrous weather, economic downturns and young people having to leave for better opportunities elsewhere. Now, with an increased appreciation of sustainable production practices, their gorgeous fabrics are in demand again.
