Lustrous Kasuri Mauve-Muted Purple Vintage Kimono Silk/Wool From Japan By the Yard #131

  • $18.00

The ikat figures in raspberry and blueberry don't show up on the reverse, but all the tiny sashiko-look crosses in white, blueberry and raspberry, do. Perhaps a complex kasuri technique?  It looks to be handwoven, probably labor intensive with various techniques - the result is glorious and very one of a kind even among our many one of a kinds. Thin, mid-light-weight, soft, it seems like pure silk with no wool, rather than the 48% wool it is. It has a slight glisten and a bit of body. The reverse side, also wonderful, is shown in the last two photos. Dusty mauve background is perfect and consistent except for one 12" long area in the 9th yard, which was the outer layer during storage and has less lustre. Otherwise,  perfect. Labels and fringe are sold but shown for your reference. 14" wide and sold by the full yard. We'll cut yours in one piece from the never used bolt.   52% Silk/48% Wool. Japan. Exquisite.
