Blackish Brown/White Superfine Small-Scale Ikat, Vintage Kimono Silk from Japan, Two Narrow Pieces #255
Unique, whisper-thin, light and fine ikat kimono silk, this handwoven artisan silk is probably older than vintage in our opinion. The background is nearly-black brown; in certain lighting it may look black. It's very dark, rich and consistent. Thin lighter brown stripes about 1/2" apart evenly through the length, with tiny white bird-like ikat forms, about 3/4" apart evenly spaced, but no two exactly alike. It's truly wonderful and uniquely delicate in look and feel, for an ikat. A true ikat, both sides are the same. It's soft and smooth, tightly woven with great expertise and precision. These are pieces from a kimono, years ago. Excellent condition. 100% Silk. Japan.
Most of the photos show the wider 14" pieces; these are only about 6" wide. One piece is 6" x 73", the other is 6" x 28". This is for both of those narrow pieces.
