True black and red interwoven with black, combine in this intricate ikat from Japan. The "Shokko" design is just red and black, connected octagons and rectangles with patterns inside. It's said to bring longevity and a successful marriage. This silk is sleek and crisp, very thin and light, with a soft sheen and lustre. It's just the same front and back and is a very smooth silk ikat. (Might be Oshima Tsumugi but there were no labels unfortunately.) The colors are consistent and strong; there's no fading or variance at all. It's so smooth and reads as so dark that the camera struggles with it; in person it's better than the photos. This is the last of this one of a kind silk from the never used, vintage bolt. 100% Silk from Japan. Size 14" wide and 29" long. The last photo shows this exact piece.
