Oshima Tsumugi Silk. Pastel shades of red, green, gold and brown, plus dark brown, combine in this amazing ikat from Oshima Japan. Sleek, soft and smooth, handwoven. Thin, lightweight, a bit crisp, not truly shiny, it's lustrous and exceptional as Oshima Tsumugi silks nearly always are. Both sides are just the same. The dyer probably used indigo, other plants and mud. Oshima is one of the most cherished types of kimono silks in Japan, and kimonos made with it often are passed down for generations and are said to become softer and even more comfortable and beautiful with time.
