Midnight Blue/Black/Indigo Handwoven Tsumugi Smooth Oshima Vintage Kimono Silk From Japan By the Yard #276
Oshima Kasuri Ikat Tsumugi Silk. Black and indigo create the look of dark indigo-navy-midnight blue. In natural light it looks more midnight than navy, to us. Sleek but not shiny, incredibly soft and smooth, handwoven, with tiny woven rectangles, slashes and lines, in precise rows across the width - a very skillfully produced ikat. Thin, lightweight, a bit crisp, not truly shiny, it's lustrous and exceptional as Oshima Tsumugi silks nearly always are. Both sides are just the same. Probably indigo dyed. Selvedges with black silk loops. 14.5" wide and sold by the full yard, and we'll cut yours in one piece from the unused, vintage, excellent condition bolt. 100% Silk. Japan. Label portion is sold but here for your reference. Oshima is one of the most cherished types of kimono silks in Japan, and kimonos made with it often are passed down through generations and are said to become softer and even more comfortable and beautiful with time.
