Hemp Gauze from Japan: Indigo Bluebirds in Bubbly Arabesques, By the Yard #127
Unusual, textured, slubby, whisper-light, loosely woven and sheer 100% hemp. Dark indigo, a bright bluebird color, and the swirly bubble outlines in lighter blue-gray. However, hold it up to the window, and you can get the print to entirely disappear... So, might the image be created by the weave, not a print at all? We can't tell. Magic? Thin and light, bouncy, with body, papery, not soft to the touch; almost coarse-feeling, not drapey at all. The weave is not consistent and chiffon-perfect as you can see. It may be a type of crepe weave; the fibers look slubby and twisted, not straight. NOTE: We machine washed and dried a piece and it completely softened, wrinkled a bit, and is now gauzy-soft and supple, almost like washed, sheer, fine, soft linen. Our translation program thinks the label says "True hemp leaf fabric. Cool to wear. Just wash it and you can wear it right away." Age unknown. In our experience this type of fabric from Japan is hard to find. 14" wide. 100% Hemp. Japan. Sold by the full yard. We'll try to yours in a continuous piece but this bolt is in two 6-yard pieces. We'll be in touch if yours can't be one piece.
