Bright Thick Heavy Slubby Handwoven Crossdye: Tomato Red + Black Vintage Obi Fabric from Japan #241

  • $16.00

The weave is chunky, strong, and slubby, with lots of variance in width of the threads in this gorgeous handweave. The color is a intense red towards orange - we see it as more red than orange, usually, in most lights. It is the warp, and is certainly dynamic when woven with black weft. Slubs are in both colors and it's quite textured. There's no documentation on this vintage fabric. Our guess is that it's mostly silk, with some hemp, linen or wool.  Both sides look just the same, and it's thick, with lots of body and structure. No shine. 12" wide in excellent condition. Sold by the full yard, and we'll cut yours in one piece. Even better than you may be thinking. Japan.
