Set of EIGHT PIECES of Very Dark Blue OLD Chirimen Kimono Silk Crepe Ikat, Various Sizes #6530
The blue is so dark it sometimes looks black, depending on the light. The crepe weave has a 'rivulets' texture due to twisted silk fibers, which also adds drape and suppleness. It's very light and flowy, with a dry hand and no shine. Six long rows of ikat zig-zags and diamonds are gray and orange. A true handwoven ikat, both sides are just the same and each diamond will differ slightly even if just one thread is a bit off. Formerly part of a kimono, probably decades ago. The silk is narrower, thinner and more delicate than most vintage Japanese kimono crepe silks we see and we think it may be older. Clean and in excellent condition. 100% Silk Crepe. Japan.
