This textile is so coarse and crisp we are assuming it was woven from local plants, probably hemp and/or flax, and dyed with natural dyes, woven by hand probably quite long ago. The weave is quite open, airy, coarse and very very rustic. It measures 11.5" wide x 5 yards long and weighs just 11 ounces. Some parts have stripes, diamonds and other geometrics. Some are just dark red, so it may be an old obi or perhaps obi fabric, not yet sewn. It's in great condition - stable and strong. We're pretty sure it's a rare one of a kind treasure. Wall hanging? Japan.
