The base silk is muted golden mustard, and the 3/4"-2" wide crosswise 'stripes' are created from tiny rows of ikat designs; tortoise shells (signifying health and longevity) and crosses, alternating. They are woven in black, dark red and green but they're so small they look pretty much black. This silk is thin, a bit crisp, mid-lightweight, with body. It's not shiny, flowy or drapey.  A true, incredibly precisely woven geometric ikat, the back looks just the same. This is a vintage, never used silk designed probably for a mens' haori. The bolt has been carefully stored for many decades and is in excellent condition. 14" wide, sold by the full yard. We'll cut yours in one continuous piece. The labels are gone but we think this ikat is Yuki or Oshima Kasuri Ikat, most likely mud dyed and hand woven. Age unknown. 100% Silk. Japan.
