Midnight Rose, Black/Red Coppery Tsumugi Ikat, Vintage Kimono Silk By the Yard, #261

The complex, red-orange and black (mostly black) ikat creates a design of perhaps a trellis of roses: hexagons, arabesques, leaves, flowers and swirls, mostly hidden in the dark. Tiny bits of bright orange-red pop through the black, but just barely: from a distance the two colors blend to make it look blackish, coppery/burgundy/brownish.  Mid-light weight, thin, with body, it's smooth and cottony-soft, with no shine, no drape, no sleekness; it's what we know as raw silk. One yard weighs only 2 ounces but it looks heavier. Much more beautiful and interesting than the photos; the camera struggles with the intricate, dark, two-color hand-weave. The label certifies Tsumugi, 100% Silk. Japan.  14" wide. Sold by the full yard and we'll cut yours in one continuous piece from the never-used bolt.
