White/Grays/Pastels Oshima Tsumugi Vintage Kimono Silk from Japan by the Yard # 626
Beloved in Japan, Oshima Tsumugi Pongee is hand-dyed, hand-woven, time consuming and difficult to produce. The intricate pattern is created in the ikat weave, and the dyes are made from mud from the volcanic island of Oshima. This one depicts misty landscapes, flowers, other natural elements. The base silk is off-white, almost true white, and the colors in the design all look muted; blues, red, olive, grays. This Tsumugi is thin, mid-lightweight, with body. It's slightly crispy, soft to the touch and not drapey or shiny; it's a cottony-feeling silk. A true ikat, the back looks just the same. This is a vintage, never used bolt designed for a kimono, which has been carefully stored for many decades. It's in excellent condition. 14" wide, sold by the full yard. We'll cut yours in one continuous piece. Certified Oshima 100% Silk. Japan.
