Tawny Port Melange, Silk Crepe, Vintage Silk, Still-Basted Ariaihari 12-yard BOLT from Japan #757
Stunning deepest red-brown-burgundy-wine-rust-maroon. The colors in the weave blend to read the color of tawny port, richer, deeper and better than the photos. There are yarn-dyed skinny stripey-streaks of white, blues, black, greens - adding to the gorgeous depth of this silk. Both sides are the same. This crepe is lightweight, thin, fine, supple, flowy, a little bit sheer, with a dry hand and no shine. 100% Silk. Japan.
Araihari, the time-consuming art of cleaning a special kimono, brings us these pieces of a kimono after being dis-assembled into its original 10 pieces, basted together into a flat long form for proper cleaning without damaging the silk, cleaned and not yet re-sewn into another kimono. Altogether it is a little more than 12 yards of silk, in one long piece with hand-basting still intact. Last two photos show some of the basting.
If you removed the basting you would have ten rectangles. Approximate sizes: Four pieces 14" x 60". Two pieces 14" x 42". One piece 6.5" x 31". Two pieces 6.5" x 50". One piece 6.5" x 70".
