Rustic Clouds Complex Gray/Amethyst Bamboo Vintage Kimono Silk By the Yard #619
The background appears as darker and lighter mottled grays, with hints of purple, off-white showing in the weave, and in some lights an almost sage-gray. Both sides are beautiful - one side has more dark purple-gray in the bamboo leaves, the other side more off-white. The leaves, stripes, slubs and lines arel done in the weave, but it's certainly not a typical ikat.. .maybe technically a type of ikat. There may have been bokashi somewhere in the process for the blends and cloud-like tones of charcoal and amethyst. Thin and very light, supple, soft and airy, a bit drapey, not quite sheer. We're told it's either all silk or silk/ramie or silk/hemp. We'd add the possibility of a bit of wool to the mystery. Definitely unusual - possibly rare? Perhaps the weaver embroidered in the corner with silk from the loom. 14.5" wide. Sold by the full yard and we'll cut yours in one piece from the excellent condition vintage bolt. Japan.
