Planetary Turmeric, Iridescent Vintage Kimono Silk MEISEN Ikat from Japan 13" x 56" Piece #126

The background is woven from fine silk threads in red and yellow-green, so it reads as iridescent golden brown turmeric with greenish yellow highlights. The 'planets' are orange and purplish-blue, with pinkish red, and lighter pink.  This is an old kimono silk Meisen in nearly perfect condition. The selvedges vary a bit per the photos, some areas are slightly fringed and loopy, and some are smoother, which are a feature of the weave and not damage. It came to us folded not rolled, hence the fold lines.  It's classic Silk Meisen, light, crisp and thin, with lots of body and slight shine; very soft and smooth. It's a true ikat with intentional "Meisen Blur" on the edges of the designs.  Both sides are just the same. The color is extraordinary and much more beautiful than the photos can capture.  13" wide and 56" long piece. This is vintage, never 100% Silk.  Japan.
