Cherry Blossoms Ikat, Mawata Yuki Tsumugi Kimono Silk By the Yard #403

Slubby, textured and soft, this silk is woven with a background of several dark blue-gray tones, plus black, red and lighter gray. It reads as charcoal kissed by indigo, with lots of slubs and texture. It was woven in Yuki, Japan, known for weaving the beloved and historically important Yuki Tsumugi Silk. Dark red flower centers add lovely contrast, and extensive black in the slubby Kasuri Ikat weave makes this silk so beautiful!  Front and back are exactly the same in this true ikat. This bolt probably took months to hand weave. Yuki Tsumugi has been cherished in Japan for centuries, and is on the UNESCO Representative List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. Thin, soft and a bit crisp, with some body. 14" wide, 100% Silk, sold by the full yard, and we'll cut yours in one piece from the unused vintage bolt. It's in perfect condition.  Japan.  Labels and fringe are sold but photos are here for your reference.
