Expertly woven Tsumugi silk with dream-like lakes, boats, villages, streams, clouds and mountains - in winter perhaps... all done in an intricate, detailed ikat. The base silk is white, and the tiny ikat 'dots' were woven in black, grays, blues, brown, and wonderfully small touches of red in boats, houses, and clothing. The red shows up better than in the photos. This silk is thin, crisp, mid-lightweight, with body. It's soft to the touch, with a slight sheen and rustle. It's probably an Oshima Tsumugi raw silk, hand dyed with volcanic ash mud.  A true ikat, the back looks and feels just the same. This is a vintage, never used bolt designed for a kimono, which has been carefully stored for many decades.
