Red Violet Iridescent Woven Leaves from Japan, By the Yard #392
This vintage kimono fabric is very iridescent, always changing from periwinkles to purples, raspberry reds and blues. Tiny simple leaves clustered on wavy stalks run lengthwise through the bolt. We think this is technically a jacquard, the design is in the weave and it's quite smooth; you can't really feel the leaves. It's mid-weight; heavier than most kimono fabrics, and it has body. We're guessing a blend of silk, wool and synthetic - perhaps a little nylon makes the slight sheen, wool gives it body and strength, and silk its softness. The back has less detail and the colors are reversed, per the last photo. 14" wide, perfect condition, sold by the full yard. We'll cut yours in a continuous piece the length you order, from the never-used vintage bolt. Japan.
