Blue-Gray Homespun Vintage Kimono Yuki Tsumugi from Japan By the Yard #622

The label states "Home Made" and is signed by the weaver. Certifications are from Yuki Prefecture which is well known for Yuki Tsumugi Silk, designated as one of the UNESCO-listed Important Intangible Cultural Properties of Japan.  It's a little crisp, perhaps starched in some way by the weaver. There's no dye transfer. It's thin, soft and a bit sheer, not drapey at all, the same on both sides. It's a bit like burlap, with a somewhat open weave, but not coarse or scratchy. It may soften beautifully. There are 'charming imperfections' as you can see from the photo with the stray black thread. What a delight to find old Homespun from Japan!  14" wide, sold by the full yard and we'll cut yours in one piece from the excellent condition vintage bolt. Full of Wonder. 100% Yuki Tsumugi Silk.
