"Leaves" Black Sheer Tulle Vintage Japanese Kimono Silk By the Yard #740
Supple, sheer, woven, this silk is like liquid lace, with solid black delicate images of different kinds of leaves. Liquid drape pure silk intended for summer kimono, this is a rare and lovely textile in pure dark rich black. The leaves hardly add any thickness; you can barely feel them at all, but they are opaque. Lightweight, flowy, soft, with a matte finish and a weight of about 1.5 ouces per 14" wide yard. Both sides read and feel the same. This silk seems a bit thicker than typical chiffon and would probably be less more stable and less slippery, to sew. We're not sure what this would be called in Japan but it is similar to the silk tulle we know; drapey, not fluffy or gauzy, not as sleek as chiffon. Almost like a high end lace netting. No stretch except on the bias. There are two white 'dots' intended for a hand-embroidered or stamped family crest, one at 1 yard and one at about 8.75 yards. They touch the selvedge and are 3/4" diameter.
Sold by the full yard and yours will be in one piece, cut from the never-used, excellent condition, vintage bolt. 14" wide. 100% Silk. Japan.
