Vintage Kimono Silk, Red/Black Oshima Handwoven from Japan by the Yard, #360

Only 12 left!

Large hemp leaves and hexagons in black and red, with a dark russet/red/burgundy overall effect. There are endless, tiny hexagons/tortoise shells creating the background. The intricate pattern is created in the ikat hand weave, and the dyes are most likely made from mud and tree bark - this silk is from the volcanic island of Oshima.  It is thin, soft and lightweight, not crisp or shiny at all. It has a raw silk hand-feel, is fairly smooth, not slubby-textured, supple but not really drapey.  It's a true ikat so the back is just the same. This is a never used bolt designed for a kimono, in excellent condition. 14" wide and sold  by the full yard. We'll cut yours in one continuous piece from the bolt. Oshima 100% Silk. Japan. Handwoven.
