DEEPER SALE Red Camellias Mud Dyed Oshima Tsumugi Pongee Ikat Vintage Kimono Silk By the Yard #816
This black, gray and red authentic Oshima Tsumugi is woven with black dominant, plus taupe, reds and oranges, gold and dark green. The weave creates frames for the large flowers, surrounded by rectangles and squares with black borders. We are told the design depicts Shikishi boards, which were boards or cards for calligraphy, poems and illustrations in Japan long ago. This silk overall reads quite dark which makes the large flowers contrast beautifully. The hand is classic Tsumugi pongee: thin and light, silky-smooth, no slubs, with a bit of a rustle. It has a slight sheen, and is supple but not drapey. It's tightly woven, with a little body, and isn't crisp. It is a certified handwoven Oshima Tsumugi Pongee. A true ikat, both sides are the same. 22" repeat. 14" wide and sold by the full yard; we'll cut yours in one piece from the vintage, never used, excellent condition bolt. We're happy that Oshima Tsumugi silks such as this one are still available - they are quite old, mud-dyed, 100% Silk. Japan.
